Let’s learn about the Arabian Gazelles in Dubai, how to join them, their founder, impact and more.
Dubai, the city of stunning firsts, has “the first, the only and the all” female supercar owners’ club.
As Dubai is an adult Disneyland of sorts, boasting some of the greatest collection of supercars, its ladies aren’t shy to take part in the party as men are doing.
Who Are The Arabian Gazelles?
Arabian Gazelles is founded by Hanan Mazouzi Sobati in 2017. The club is the world’s first and only community of female supercar owners. Since it’s launch, it has always grown with globally connected and empowered women who in flourishing make a difference every day. They aren’t ready to settle as the hot ladies in the front passenger’s seat, but as the ones right on the driver’s seat, revving, racing or cruising like men; and thus, breaking stereotypes, inspiring and helping to build the confidence of like-minded females.
Thanks to the club, a lot of women have been breaking away from the shackles of timidity and are ready to get adventurous on the road like their male counterparts. The Gazelles aren’t just about adrenaline-rush supercar events, they, being powerful women, are also about the luxury lifestyle as not only members having racing cars are admitted into the club but also those having luxury cars such as the Rolls Royce. This is manifest in their motto, “Life is too short to drive boring cars”.
Impact of The Gazelles
Hardly had they launched the club when such big names as CNN, BBC, Daily Mail, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Forbes et cetera recognized them. Recognition by media outlets isn’t all as brands and manufacturers have collaborated with them and/or sponsored their events. One good example is the exclusive McLaren-sponsored female-only track experience. The event gave women who have never been on circuit and at such extremes the opportunity.
In 2017, the Gazelles were at the Dubai Autodrome driving Rolls-Royce’s latest high-performance Black Badge models. Later in November of the same year, the founder of the Arabian Gazelles was invited to a panel at the Dubai International Motor Show.
Further, five members of the club were invited for the test driving of the $200,000+ California T by Ferrari. And as though the foregoing aren’t enough, BMW has invited the Gazelles to a roundtable chat on brand perception and vehicle design.
Who Is Hanan Mazouzi Sobati Founder of Arabian Gazelles?
One would think Hanan Mazouzi Sobati, being a supercar and adrenaline-rush enthusiast, would have been influenced by her husband. Sadly, that would be wrong as her husband isn’t really into cars, so that the case is the polar opposite. Hanan has a background in the luxury industry. Born in Algeria, Africa, she loved playing with her brother’s toy cars as a little 10-year old girl, and since then this has made autos part of her life. She’s lived in the UK and Qatar but has been living in Dubai for over 20 years now. Today, she counts a Rolls Royce Drophead Phantom and Morgan Aero Supersport among her automobile collection.
Worthy of note is the fact that Hanan had had her share of sexism behind her driving wheels. Back then, she was clearly not taken seriously; no matter how fast she raced. “They always thought I was someone else [not the owner of the car], accompanying someone [the owner of the car]. I was just there to support him, or to sit in the passenger seat,” she recalls.
How Arabian Gazelles Came About
Hanan was a member of a car-owners club. She found the club was “99%”-male whereas there must be other female car fanatics out there who would appreciate a group dynamic. Given this, she set out to find them. In starting, Sobati held a track day with two neighbors in 2016. They loved it. After that event they either went out and bought a supercar or they started taking their husbands’ cars. Her influence did elicit some negative reactions. At some point, it made her the worst person at dinner parties. The husbands of the ladies were all scared of her as they thought she was about to corrupt their wives.
Today, Arabian Gazelles has about 100 members, one of whom is Alex Hirschi, the popular Dubai-based supercar enthusiast and YouTuber, Supercar Blondie. As the club has grown in numbers so have the attitudes changed towards women by the car industry.
Who Can Join The Arabian Gazelles?
At the beginning it seemed only supercar aficionados can join the club but things have taken a curve as an aspiring member is expected to drive and own a supercar such as Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé, McLaren, Aston Martin, Maserati, Bugatti, luxury SUVs Bentayga and the G-Wagon.

“We are like a family, a group of like-minded women with the same passion for driving supercars. It’s a platform to experience and share the thrill of driving these metal marvels,” — Mazouzi.
“The club is a vehicle for changing perceptions,” — Jarvi. “What I like to promote in the group is the idea that “‘Hey, you can go to college and work your ass off too and buy your car. You don’t have to be the hot chick in the front right seat. You can be the hot chick in the driver’s seat.’”
